The Albanese government is pushing for an increase in the minimum award wage to help the country’s lowest-paid workers battle inflation and cost-of-living pressures. In a submission to the Fair Work Commission last Thursday, the Labor government argued again for an increase to the minimum wage that’s in line with inflation. Monthly inflation is currently sitting at 3.4 per cent. It’s the third year in a row the government has pushed for a rise. The Fair Work Commission will likely announce the Annual Wage Review decision at the beginning of June and we will bring you up to speed as soon as that happens. In the meantime, dealing with wage issues can be complex and time-consuming. If you need any assistance on that part of your business, our Advice Team is here to help – give us a call on 1300 651 415.

Upcoming Changes for High-Risk Work Licences
Australia is on a journey to harmonise and unite Work Health and Safety legislation. Western Australia is experiencing this change gradually. We begin to see new legislation come into effect, such as new requirements for High-Risk Work Licences.
By the end of this month, March 2024, there will be two new licences required for specific high-risk work in Western Australia. This includes:
  1. Concrete placing (PB) - required for operating any concrete placing boom
  2. Materials Hoist (HM) or Personnel Hoist (HP) - required for operating any material hoist
Following this mandatory direction is only one step towards compliance. Consider what other areas you need to assess.

Easter Holiday Safety Awareness for Businesses
As we approach the long weekend and Easter holidays, it’s an essential time for businesses to reinforce health and safety measures.
This period can see a change in regular operations, including reduced staff, temporary closures, or increased customer activity.
This is not just about finalising your holiday plans or stocking up for family gatherings. Prioritising the safety and well-being of your workers and your business is key.

Do you ever find yourself in a situation that you think you’ve got everything under control until something unexpected happens and you are suddenly overwhelmed?

Heather first contacted the Employsure Advice Team for assistance in running a capability dismissal process. With the guidance from one of our advisors, Heather sent out the invitation letter to the employee expecting a welfare meeting to take place soon. However, on the day before the scheduled meeting, Heather was thrown off her feet when she received correspondence that her employee has engaged legal representation, and they are now requesting a new medical examination. A million questions popped into Heather’s head, and she urgently called out the calvary again. Our knowledgeable advisor hurried to the rescue in no time, supported Heather with the most accurate information, patience and care in this challenging time. Heather successfully defended the validity of the medical report in hand and pushed through the capability dismissal process after consulting our advisor on the phone.

If you ever find yourself in such a tricky situation, contact our Advice Line on 1300 651 415 for help any time!
